DEF LEPPARD's PHIL COLLEN: 'Nothing Comes Without A Bit Of Hard Work'
April 5, 2018DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen was recently interviewed by Mark Reardon of the KMOX radio station. You can now listen to the chat using the SoundCloud widget below.
Asked about the challenges that come with popularity and success, Collen said: "It just means you have to work a bit hard, which is no big deal at all. I mean, I get up at six, even to this day, and get up and get the day going and stuff. So, for me, I think that nothing comes without a bit of hard work. So if you know that going into it, then you keep it up. It's the people who think that they're gonna get something for doing nothing that kind of irks me. There's a lot of bands that just think it should just be handed to them. No, you've gotta work your ass off, and that's how it works. And I like that — I like the fact that, even now, we're getting rewarded for our hard work and determination and stuff. And I think you just have to do that. So many people just think that this stuff is handed to you, and it doesn't work like that."
On June 1, Bludgeon Riffola/Mercury/UMe will release the first in DEF LEPPARD's projected four-volume career-spanning box set series, when the appropriately dubbed "Volume One" appears in multidisc LP and CD collections. The collection arrives in time for this summer's highly anticipated DEF LEPPARD co-headline tour with JOURNEY.
DEF LEPPARD and JOURNEY's American tour will mark the first time the groups have performed together since 2006. The North American trek will be composed of both stadium and arena concerts, with half of the shows being closed by JOURNEY and half by DEF LEPPARD. The tour, promoted by Live Nation, kicks off May 21 in Hartford, Connecticut, at the XL Center and will feature complete sets and all-new production from both bands. The 58-city tour will hit ten stadiums — Toronto's Rogers Centre; Atlanta's Sun Trust Park; Detroit's Comerica Park; Chicago's Wrigley Field; Denver's Coors Field; Minneapolis's Target Field; Boston's Fenway Park; St. Louis's Busch Stadium; San Francisco's AT&T Park; and San Diego's Petco Park — as well as world-famous arenas, such as Madison Square Garden in New York and the "Fabulous" Forum in Inglewood, California.
